We took part in the European Parliament’s Special Committee on the Housing Crisis in the European Union (HOUS)

Yesterday, the Barcelona Metropolitan Housing Observatory (O-HB) took part in a Public Hearing on state aid rules in the field of housing, held by the European Parliament’s Special Committee on the Housing Crisis in the European Union (HOUS). The event brought together experts, key stakeholders, and the European Commission to engage in dialogue with Members of the European Parliament on how EU competition policy can better support affordable housing initiatives.

O-HB participated in Panel 2, focused on “Public Authorities’ Experience”. Carles Donat Muñoz, co-director of the Observatory, shared insights on the housing situation at the local and regional level in Catalonia, highlighting the current challenges faced by cities such as Barcelona and its metropolitan area, and recent housing policy developments at the Catalan and Spanish levels.

These types of committees are essential for driving European strategies that enable cities and regions to improve their housing and urban planning policies. O-HB’s collaboration reinforces its commitment to the exchange of data and experiences, thereby contributing to the development of public mechanisms to tackle the housing crisis.
