From the Barcelona Metropolitan Housing Observatory we participated in the first session of the Barcelona Rent Regulation Working Group created by Barcelona City Council, within the framework of the Barcelona Social Housing Council, body which aims to evaluate and monitor the implementation of the State Housing Law and the declaration of Barcelona as a stressed market area.
We have presented the laboratory ‘Rental contracts in the city of Barcelona. 2010-2023’. Document that collects the main indicators that evaluate the evolution of the rental stock in this period. Information that allows members of the working group to carry out a more in-depth analysis of the situation and make regulatory proposals.
The working group was created by a broad agreement of the Ecology, Urban Planning, Mobility and Housing Commission last March with votes in favor of the Municipal Government (PSC), the proposing group (BComú), JxCat – Trias x BCN and ERC. The main objective of the Working Group is to have as much detail as possible on the evolution of the market and the city’s rental stock in the context of price regulation, in order to be able to study and evaluate the deployment of the measure. In this sense, the Working Group will prepare and debate a half-yearly report that will include the evolution of the number of new contracts signed and the evolution of the rental price.
