The study ‘State of Housing 2021. Catalonia and Barcelona’, published in collaboration with the Observatori DESC, describes the situation in Catalonia in terms of housing within the European framework. The data places Barcelona, Catalonia and the metropolitan area below the European average in social rental housing. This small amount of sheltered housing is due, in part, to the low spending on public housing policies: during the period 2000-2019, in Spain 0.06% of GDP was dedicated to it, far from the 0.5% allocated, on average, in the European Union.
